It’s Monday. For some strange and unknown reason, Mother Nature put aside her hatred for me and bestowed a gorgeous Fall weekend upon us here in Illinois.
Saturday, the girlfriend and I took a drive out to Morris for their annual Corn Fest. There was live music, flea-market vendors, drinks, rides for the kids, games, and a ton of food. We wandered around, enjoyed the beautiful weather, and had a good time. Naturally, we couldn’t leave without picking up some killer BBQ for dinner—and, of course, some grilled sweet corn. Because attending a Corn Fest without eating corn would just be downright wrong.
Sunday, the girlfriend headed downstate to visit her parents, leaving the pooch and me to fend for ourselves. Fortunately, we had a gorgeous day to work with. Abby and I played ball, ran around the yard, and eventually settled into the time-honored tradition of getting lazy. I fired up the NASCAR race on the garage TV, grabbed a beer and some snacks, and had everything I needed for a perfectly respectable afternoon of doing absolutely nothing productive.
Later, I was invited over to my parents’ place for homemade pasta, which was a pretty damn good way to wrap things up. All in all, a beautiful weekend, good food, cold beer, NASCAR, the pooch, and no visits from the evil weather gods.

Time to get back to work… better open another bag of candy corn!
