New Rubber

It’s Wednesday. I’ve needed to get some new tires for the Corvette for a while now. So a couple weeks ago I started researching all things tires. After checking out reviews of the many different brands currently on the market, one brand was consistently at the top—Michelin. In the past I’ve always had BF Goodrich tires. My ’77 had them, our ’75 before that, and even our ’72 all came with BF Goodrich. I think they make good tires, but there was no denying the accolades for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

I decided to go with Belle Tire. They were local, the price was fair, and I liked the staff the previous times that I’ve been in there. They ordered the tires last Friday and told us they would be in Monday morning. We dropped the car off on Monday and returned a couple hours later to find it with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 A/S installed. I talked to a staff member and explained that those were the All Season tires and I had ordered the Summer tires. They needed time to see how this happened, so I left the car with them after they offered to store it inside overnight.

The next day the manager called me and apologized for the mix-up, but then went on to say that the Michelin Pilot 4S summer tires were no longer available in the size I needed. They offered a discount on the A/S they installed, but offered to install any tire I wanted. After discussing the situation with my cousin and uncle (both car builders), they each advised keeping the All Season 4 A/S. I don’t run the car on a track, so they felt the A/S would ride better and cost less.

So I kept the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 A/S and look forward to getting out on the road. So far I’m happy, but I’ll let everyone know what I think after I get a few miles on them.
