Unrelenting Heat & Humidity

It’s Wednesday. Holy crap, it’s bitch-ass hot outside and the humidity is absolutely fucking ridiculous. At this point it feels like the entire country is either flooding, melting, or simultaneously doing both. Mother Nature has apparently decided subtlety is overrated and is just cranking the thermostat to “fuck you” while dumping buckets of water on everyone else.

Now, I’m all for hot weather. Give me sunshine, 85 degrees, and a nice summer day and I’m a happy camper. But this combination of extreme heat and humidity is a whole different beast. The temperature might say 90-something, but with that humidity, stepping outside feels like walking directly into a giant, wet oven.

And that’s the problem with this kind of heat. The temperature alone isn’t necessarily the killer; it’s the combination of heat and humidity that makes it so damn oppressive. When the air is already saturated with moisture, your sweat doesn’t evaporate properly, which means your body’s built-in cooling system basically throws its hands in the air and says, “Well, we’re screwed!”

So yeah, I like summer. I like warm weather. I like being outside. But there is a pretty significant difference between “What a beautiful summer day!” and “How long can I remain outside before my brain is cooked like a rotisserie chicken?”

True Story

It’s Tuesday. Talk about terrible timing. One of my readers apparently bought himself a bowl of Dolly Parton’s Chicken & Dumplings, probably thinking he was just having a nice little Southern comfort-food dinner. Then, the very next day, Dolly died.

Imagine opening that container the next day and thinking, “Well…this suddenly got a lot more depressing.” Out of all the meals you could possibly have eaten, you picked Dolly Parton’s Chicken & Dumplings the day before Dolly Parton herself passed away. I’m not saying that he killed Dolly, but, damn.

Keep,

I bought this the other day and the next day she died! No kidding!

Does anyone know where I can get a Trump Burger?

Heat-A-Comin’

It’s Monday. Well, for once Mother Nature decided to cooperate. She was kind enough to hold off the rain on Saturday afternoon until well after the Route 66 Car Show in Berwyn, Illinois, had wrapped up. Considering how often she likes to screw with my plans, I’ll take the win.

This show is always an annual favorite of mine, but this year was extra special because it also celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Mother Road—Route 66. And they certainly went all out. There was an enormous variety of automotive goodness on display, along with live bands, activities, plenty of food and drinks, and enough horsepower and chrome to keep any car nut happy.

It was a blast, and as always, I came home with a crap-ton of photos. I’ll be sorting through all of them and putting together a gallery later this week, so there’s plenty more Route 66 goodness to come!
