It’s Friday! Here in Illinois we’re gearing up for another weekend of blistering heat and enough humidity to make it feel like you’re breathing through a warm, wet bath towel. Stepping outside is less like opening your front door and more like walking directly into a giant crockpot.
Of course, we’re not the only ones roasting. Much of the country is getting the same treatment, so if you’re caught in this heatwave, take it easy. Drink plenty of water, stay in the air conditioning whenever you can, and avoid doing anything that sounds remotely productive. If you absolutely have to be outside, remember that the sidewalk is hot enough to fry an egg and your car’s seat belt buckle has been promoted to a branding iron.
Stay cool, stay hydrated, and if someone tells you, “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity,” I think it’s totally legal to smack them repeatedly in the face with a pool noodle.
