Land Cruiser?

It’s Wednesday. One of my readers saw this Toyota while out for breakfast recently. I don’t know much about these, but after looking around, I believe it’s a Toyota FJ40 (Land Cruiser) from roughly the 1979-80 model year. There are many 4x4s out there these days that look pretty but don’t have what it takes to really tear it up on the trail. This Toyota appears to be equipped with all the necessary goodies like the roll bar, equipment rack, flood lights, spare tire, front-mounted winch, beefy tires, and most importantly, the pine scented air freshener hanging from the rearview mirror!

Thanks for taking the time to send in the photo, James!

Ozzy Says Goodbye

It’s Tuesday. The original lineup of Black Sabbath reunited for the first time in 20 years on Saturday in the U.K. to mark their final performance together. This was also the final performance for singer Ozzy Osbourne. The 76-year-old Ozzy appeared on stage seated on a throne due to progressing Parkinson’s disease and other health issues. The Birmingham stadium show climaxed with a four-song Sabbath set, preceded by Osbourne doing a five-song set of his solo material, which was preceded in turn by a full day’s worth of metal and hard-rock all-stars doing mini-sets that included Sabbath covers as well as original material.

If you missed it, here’s Black Sabbath’s Iron Man… for the final time.

Hot Weekend

It’s Monday. I hope everyone had a good holiday weekend. It was a hot & humid 4th for all of us in Illinois. We had the Vette out, plenty of good food, fireworks, and more food. The best part? Not having to deal with work for three days in a row. And sleeping in. Sleeping in was nice.

Nascar was in Chicago over the weekend for the Chicago Street Race. I went last year but decided to watch from home this year. Both the Saturday and Sunday races were very good. They were also both won by Shane van Gisbergen, one of the best road course racers that I’ve seen in quite a while. The guy is a road course machine. And strangely, both races were completed without a single raindrop falling! Although, it was close on Sunday afternoon. And sadly, this was the final year for Nascar in Chicago. Rumor has it they’re looking at San Diego next, but so far nothing has been confirmed. It was fun while it lasted!

Back to work…
