Cobra

It’s Thursday. The racing history between the Corvette and AC Cobra in the 60s was fierce and well documented. The Cobra weighed 1,000 pounds less than the Stingray, so it had a significant advantage on the track and basically kicked the Stingray’s ass. That is until Zora, the father of the Corvette, built the Grand Sport Corvettes. These five cars went on to beat the Cobras before Chevrolet officially pulled out of racing.

Needless to say, the Cobra was a dominate force in racing and has a strong following. Chuck, one of my readers is no exception. He can remember seeing one at a local dealership when he was younger and would go there often to dream. These days that’s a pretty big dream because an original Cobra can go for six to seven figures at auction!

Keep,

Loved Thursday’s Stingray ad for a ’67 convertible for $3795.

My favorite car from a slightly earlier time was the AC Cobra. This would have been circa 1963-1965, or so. As best I can remember that cobra with a Ford 289 engine sold for about $7500 new, which made the stingray a real bargain. The local dealership had one cobra in stock and I would go often to look and dream.

Eventually the engine was upgraded to the Ford 427 cu-in muscle car engine. The Cobra 427 S/C had a 0-100-0 mph time of 13.8 seconds (https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/dodge-viper-versus-shelby-cobra/).

A 427 cobra could run 0-100-0 in less than one city block. I know somebody that did it. And he did it with an overweight passenger (not me – I was skinny back then). The passenger proclaimed he would never ride with that driver again.

Uh-Oh…

It’s Wednesday. A friend was driving through our neighborhood the other day and saw this car with a curious protrusion attached to the drivers-side passenger window. Upon closer inspection it revealed itself to be a bright purple dildo dangling from the window, attached via a suction cup. My friend took these two photos and sent them to me. We immediately started to speculate what circumstances would provoke someone to affix a purple dildo to a car and none were very positive. It could just be a joke, but I think someone was trying to send a message. There’s no way to remove something like that from your car and still look cool. It’ll likely take a firm grip with both hands and several rigorous tugs to free it from the window. And then you’ll suddenly find yourself standing there out in the street holding a big purple dick. Not exactly a Hallmark moment.

Ouch!

It’s Tuesday. This hurts my soul. With the new C8 having the engine located near the rear of the car, it has a 40-60 weight distribution. Clearly this wasn’t taken into consideration when the mechanic put it on the lift.

Oh No, Another C8 Corvette Has Fallen Off A Shop Lift

The Rapid Blue Chevrolet C8 Corvette Stingray will likely be declared a write-off

A Chevrolet C8 Corvette Stingray has been wrecked after falling off a two-post car lift somewhere in North America.

As the C8-generation Corvette is mid-engined, its weight distribution is very different than the C7. In fact, whereas the C7 had a 50-50 weight distribution, the C8 model has a 40-60 split. This means the new car needs to be lifted differently than its predecessor. Evidently, the mechanic at this shop might have not received the memo.

Two images recently shared to the Corvette Forum show the Rapid Blue Corvette resting on its rear after slipping off the two-post jack. In all likelihood, the mechanic didn’t use the correct lifting points at the rear of the vehicle which, as Corvette Blogger points out, are placed much further back than on the C7.

The force of the fall has caused a significant split in the bodywork of the sports car and while not visible in these photos, there’s a very good chance that the frame has also been bent. If that’s the case, the car will immediately be declared a write-off and will probably go to a scrapyard where it may be sold.

This isn’t the first time a C8 Corvette has slipped off a two-post car lift. In June 2020, a very similar incident occurred when a Chevrolet dealership in Jacksonville, Florida incorrectly lifted a red C8 Stingray. The Corvette in that incident is also believed to have suffered irreparable damage from the fall.
