Ace Drive-In

It’s Thursday. Even as a kid, I spent a lot of time at the Ace Drive-In in Joliet, Illinois. I didn’t have much money back then, but me and my buddies would rummage under our couch cushions and could usually get enough change for a rootbeer float or two! Ace Drive-In opened back in 1949 and has been serving up their homemade rootbeer, burgers, dogs, and sandwiches ever since. I was craving a burger last night so a buddy and I stopped in for some food. You can eat from your car or do like we did and take a seat at one of their picnic tables. And stop in on Thursday nights for a special treat—classic car night!

Wonderfest 2023 Model Contest

It’s Wednesday. Okay, I don’t remember if I’ve admitted this before, but I’m a huge nerd. Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Comics—I love it all. When I was younger I used to build models. I got pretty good but nowhere even close to what I have featured today. It’s called Wonderfest and it’s an annual exhibit and contest of the best in amateur modeling. Science-fiction, horror and comics are all represented. They put everything on display every June and the public can attend. The video is a walkthrough of the model contest room at Wonderfest 2023. I want just about everything—especially that lighted X-Wing and the Tron Recognizer!

Ludacris Speed

It’s Tuesday. For those of you not familiar with the Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy) races are an annual motorcycle racing event run on the Isle of Man in May/June. The event is often called one of the most dangerous racing events in the world because competitors reach speeds in excess of 200 MPH. Not surprisingly, many participants have died. Just to wrap your head around what 200 MPH is like, check out this short video of Steve Plater, two-time TT winner reporting trackside.
