D’oh!

It’s Saturday! The 14-mile long section of newly constructed boarder wall in Otay Mesa cost $150 million.

Here’s a guy casually climbing over it.

Skywatch

It’s Friday! I suppose it’s about time to get shopping for Christmas gifts. Anyone that knows me already knows how much I *hate* doing this. Sure, buying online greatly reduces the headache of tracking down gifts, but it’s still a frustrating pain in the ass for me because I hate trying to figure out what others want. For the most part, the people I have to buy for are adults who are more than capable of buying what they want and therefor already have everything they want. I think this whole Christmas thing would be much better by getting gifts for kids only.

I’m finishing up my last bag of candy corn and getting ready to switch over to holiday M&Ms.

The short film featured today is called “Skywatch” and has been six years in the making. It was written & directed by Colin Levy and funded by a Kickstarter campaign. It’s a sci-fi story of two outcast teens that hack into a drone delivery system to pull a prank on their neighbor and accidentally crash-land a dangerous prototype, finding themselves entangled in a life-and-death conspiracy. It stars young actors Uriah Shelton (13 Reasons Why, Looking For Alaska) and Zach Callison (Steven Universe, The Goldbergs), and also features an appearance by Jude Law. Colin Levy has worked on several Pixar films, but decided to quit to work full-time on his proof of concept “Skywatch” project. It runs only 10 minutes, so kick back for a few and check it out, I think you’ll like it.

Oh, normally on Friday’s I like to feature two babes instead of just one.  My apologies to everyone because I just couldn’t do that today.

8th Grade Science Project

It’s Thursday. Alaina Gassler is an 8th grader at Avon Grove Charter School in West Grove, PA. When she was tasked with a Science and Engineering Fair project, she got to work. She tackled a common problem that all motorists deal with on a daily basis—blind spots.

“Many car accidents are caused by drivers not being able to see hazards due to blind spots. My prototype is designed to get rid of those blind spots by displaying an image of the area behind them onto the spot. I used a small projector as the displaying device and a webcam as the recording device. The webcam is mounted onto the outside of the car, and the projector displays the image only the A-pillar of the car. To help the image become brighter and clearer, I used a reflective fabric that reflects the picture only to the driver. This prototype has the potential to greatly reduce blind spot related car accidents.”

With some fine-tuning and the backing from a major automaker, her concept could be mass-produced, improving the overall safety of future automobiles. Pretty cool for an 8th grader, eh!
