Ugh

It’s Monday. Well, that wasn’t exactly a fun way to spend eight days.

I’m finally back after an unexpected stay in the hospital. It all started on the 11th when I came down with a fever. By that evening it had escalated enough that I found myself sitting in the emergency room, and not long after that, being admitted.

As it turns out, I had a severe infection buried deep in my hip. Over the next several days the doctors threw a small pharmacy’s worth of IV antibiotics at it, but the infection wasn’t interested in cooperating. An MRI eventually revealed a large abscess, which earned me a trip to the operating room. The surgeons went in, cleaned everything out, and thankfully that’s when things finally started moving in the right direction. The fever broke, the pain eased up, and I began feeling human again.

Now I’m sporting a wound vac, which uses negative pressure to help the surgical wound heal faster, along with what feels like an endless supply of antibiotics. At this point my job is pretty simple: take it easy, show up for dressing changes, and continue the IV treatments.

I have a feeling this story isn’t quite finished yet. So if I happen to miss any future updates, I’m either back in the hospital… or dead.

And by the way, I appreciate all the email and concern for me and the website. Thank you.
